About the Artist

Georges Gaudion (1885–1942) was a French painter, illustrator, poet, musician, and chemist who spent his career between Toulouse and the Pyrenees. He worked as an assistant to Nobel Prize-winning chemist Professor Sabatier, traveled to New Orleans where he played jazz, and was a central figure in the intellectual and artistic life of the Toulouse region between the wars. His paintings were one thread in a life pulled in many directions at once. Few artists of his period had a biography quite like it.
