About the Artist
Karl Wiener (1901–1949) was an Austrian graphic artist and draftsman who trained in Graz and Vienna, studying under Bertold Löffler at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. He worked across illustration, painting, and photomontage, and became known for political montages so pointed that he was later called the Austrian John Heartfield. He taught at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and spent his career making work that took sides. His imagery is direct, constructed, and impossible to mistake for decoration.
